Vegetarian Italian restaurant in London

I cannot believe it has taken me so long to visit Amico Bio – The first Vegetarian, organic, Italian restaurant in London. I certainly will not wait long before revisiting this great restaurant!

I assumed that the variety for Vegans would be limited as I’d always thought of Italian cuisine to be very dairy and egg based. I was wrong! The menu was clearly labelled and there were plenty of Vegan options. I was spoilt for choice –  I love it when that happens.

I had the celeriac, butternut squash and apple salad for starters. It was beautifully presented on the plate and was really palate pleasing – crunchy, fresh and sweet.

For my main meal I went for Vegetable Tempura with sweet and sour sauce with hand cooked chips as a side order. The Tempura batter was light and crispy and the Vegetable selection was super: Cauliflower, Broccoli, Courgette, Aubergine and Carrot. I loved it so much I dreamt about it a couple of nights after and had to re create the meal at home.

Unfortunatley the dessert selection wasn’t great for Vegans, the only options were home made Vegan ice cream and a Vegan cheese board. It was a cold night so I didn’t fancy ice cream and I’ve not yet come round to the idea of Vegan cheese. I’m sure it would have been lovely going by the standard of the other dishes I had, but I had my heart set on something more along the lines of  Tiramisu or Panna Cotta.

The menu on their website is really only a guide as to what they offer as their menu changes daily and is seasonal too. I picked the best time to visit as Autumn is my favourite season and the menu was full of my favourite things.

The staff were very friendly and attentive, the restaurant has a lovely warm atmosphere and is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of busy London, even though it is right in the middle of it. I highly recommend Amico Bio to Vegetarians, Vegans and any one else who enjoys eating food!

Amico Bio  is at 44 Cloth Fair, London, EC1A 7JQ. The restaurant is open Monday- Friday 12-10:30pm and Saturday 5-10:30pm. Closed Sundays and Bank Holidays.

I went to Amici Bio for the first time last week and my experience was completely the opposite! Thought the portions were small and the dishes average, although I didn’t have the same as you. I went with a vegetarian friend and we both crossed this off our restaurants to return to list!

      Hi Sarah,
Thanks for the comment, I’m sorry to hear your experience at Amico Bio wasn’t a good one. We all have different tastes and expectations, it’s what makes the world such a great place. What Vegetarian restaurants would you recommend visiting (from your return to list)?

  2. I do envy you Londoners for the choice you have in vegan eating! My vegan son is at university in London so it’s great to explore places whenever I visit. We tried InSpiral the last time and the food was amazing though expensive (although I was disappointed to find out they served cow’s milk with drinks if you ask for it – I thought it was 100% vegan).

The vegetable tempura here does indeed look great!

I am not a vegan, but I am a vegetarian and quite a fussed one at that. I am lucky that London offers many varieties. I’ve written a three part series for those like me whoa are new to London and looking to adapt to food here. http://bit.ly/12otABC, http://bit.ly/15kt9by, http://bit.ly/1bUVfiE

It always helps to read others and gathers some this. Thanks for sharing yours, will look forward to more.
